It’s no secret that Ontario is filled with many beautiful waterfalls, but Inglis Falls is definitely the most beautiful one in the Grey County area! Located within Inglis Falls Conservation Area, the waterfall is classified as a cascading waterfall and drops over an 18-metre cliff. The waterfall is conveniently located right off the parking lot, with multiple different viewpoints nearby.
The waterfall is also surrounded by incredible hiking trails, suitable for the whole family. It is certainly a great place to visit for a day trip or a picnic! If visiting or travelling through the Owen Sound area, you should definitely stop by. I would say it is one of the best waterfalls to visit in Southern Ontario!

How to Get to Inglis Falls
Inglis Falls is located about 8 km from the heart of Owen Sound, Ontario, on Inglis Falls Road. From Toronto, you can expect the drive to take just under 2.5 hours, depending on traffic. It is a suitable driving distance for a day trip from Toronto, with several other nearby waterfalls to visit during your trip. Or, it can make for a great stop on the way to Bruce Peninsula National Park!
When to Visit Inglis Falls
March to May: After the snow melts, Inglis Falls will reach its highest volume and power. This is my favourite time to visit as there are typically fewer people hiking when it is still cool out as well.
June to August: Of course, the summer season is great for hiking! This is a great time to visit with the whole family for a day trip or a picnic.
September to October: Fall is a great time to hike in Ontario. Although the water evaporates a bit by this time after the hot summer, the fall foliage will be beautiful!
November to February: Inglis Falls is safe to visit during the winter season as it is very well maintained. The snow and the ice make for a unique winter waterfall experience!
Hiking Around Inglis Falls
Right as you step out of your car in the parking lot, you will hear the roaring sounds of the waterfall. From the bridge, you can admire the waterfall from above, where the river flows off the cliff. When glancing at the other side of the bridge, you will notice a small dam that you can explore as well.
As you walk along the other side of the parking lot, you will be lead to numerous lookouts of the falls. The best lookout (pictured below) is only a couple of minutes from the parking lot. You will see the intricacies of the cascading fall and the details of the rocks underneath.
As you continue walking around this area, you will find multiple viewpoints of the waterfall. You will approach wooden stairs that take you to a shorter path, lined with additional lookouts.
After admiring and taking photos of the waterfall, you can continue hiking along over 7 kilometres of trails the conservation area has to offer. The bulk of the trails are across the bridge and lead you by the river and through the forest. The trails are quite easy in difficulty, making them great to explore with the whole family.
Throughout the conservation area, you will notice remnants of old stone structures. Some still look like little shelters, while others only have pieces of walls remaining. Inglis Falls is very rich in history dating back to 1843. The grounds were home to a sawmill that had burned down on multiple occasions, along with the family home and other smaller buildings.
